Scientists are Mostly Liberals

In a report from July 9, 2009, a poll said only 6% of scientists were Republicans.

It’s not surprising to hear that only 6% of scientists affiliate themselves with the Republican Party.  Consider how scientists are funded.  They are largely funded by grants.

Engineers, on the other hand, are applied scientists working in industry.  They need to be productive and earn their pay or they are out of a job.

Engineers are self-sufficient.  They have to be productive.  So, it is understandable that scientists gravitate toward the party that gives handouts, while engineers gravitate towards a party with more business friendly policies.  Or, scientists who want to be productive choose engineering careers.

The engineer survey:

Also, consider how many “scientists” back global warming.  The global warming industry is mainly subsidized by government.  And the government wants to redistribute wealth.

If the survey would have asked how many welfare recipients are Republicans, you would probably get a similar answer as the scientists.

It’s worth noting that the survey shows that 83% of Americans believe in God, while only 33% of scientists do.  Only 4% of Americans don’t believe in God or a higher power, while 41% of scientists share that opinion.  The funny thing is, if you add the atheist and agnostic numbers for Americans (2% each), you get 4%.  But if you look at the scientists answers, you get 17% atheist, and 11% agnostic.  That only adds up to 28%, yet 41% of scientists didn’t believe in God, or a higher power.

The discrepancy here is 13%, amazingly close to 14%, or one seventh.  Scientists rat out their own colleagues, saying that one in seven fake data as in this article: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/science/article6425036.ece  Apparently, it’s true even in surveys.  Of the scientists that don’t believe in God or a higher power, 32% of them refuse to admit they’re either atheist or agnostic.  The dishonesty here is higher in the scientists that don’t believe in God.

It looks like the scientists are not being honest with their answers, which leads to a troublesome conclusion.  You can trust the general public more than a scientist.
